Whatever actually happened to Mike Brown, whatever he did or did not do, we will never know…that is only between him, the police officer and God. However what we can see is that racial profiling, bias and segregation happens every day still. In 2014. Many people of color are still treated with less respect than any Caucasian. I’m not pinning that I hate white people because I feel that’s what goes wrong in this society. We like to think it’s okay to blame an entire race for racial problems that occur, but it’s not the case. There are individual people, and individual groups who spur the controversy…on both sides. But what one needs to remember is that, slavery happened, not just to black people but to Jewish, Muslim, and so many more. Slavery happened because at a time ONE race decided they were above all else. And today, some people of that race still believe that’s the case.
At this point, I don’t care which way the situation between Mike Brown and the officer played out because it does bring to light that we have a serious problem in a society that shouldn’t. The situation with Trayvon Martin, and every other killing considered due to racial profiling. Because it is true, and no one can deny that someone would be quicker to pull the trigger on a black individual than a white…how many black people do you see in the paper getting off of punishment because they were “mentally unstable.”
The racial jokes that everyone finds so funny, the religious jokes that everyone finds so funny…just feed into the ever present idea that we are not equal.
Have you heard a joke about a white person before? (other than those fucking blonde jokes which need to stop too)
Who created the racial slurs used every day in popular hip-hop music?
I am a biracial woman, I was adopted into a white family, with two brothers, also biracial, adopted into the family.
I will never say that I hate a human race, not just because I have such a diverse view of life, but because no one, I repeat, NO ONE has the right to be made small because of how they look.
I don’t care if they’re black or white, Hispanic, Chinese, Korean…the lot. I will never racially profile someone again…no matter how small
People forget that I am a woman of color and I have been treated differently because of the way I look. Just because I don’t act one way or the other does not take away the fact that my ancestors were treated wrong because of a system that was designed to make people who look different, suffer. To make people, like my parents who just fell in love not because of the color of their skin but because the content of their character, suffer.
Everyone needs to stop, and I’ll say again I don’t care if you’re white or black…don’t racially stereotype. Even if you’ve been treated badly in the past. Because although, you want “revenge” or whatnot, it’s not the answer.
Don’t feed into the stereotypes.
Make a change.
Create a better country, than in what we are living in today.
Because only we can make a difference, together.
The real reasons the riots broke out was because of mistreatment throughout time. Even today.
No more racial stereotyping,
No more racial profiling
No more racial jokes
No more looking at a person based on the color of their skin.
Because once were in the ground, six feet under…we’re all the same. Bones and ash.
Hands up for a teenager who was murdered.
Hearts out for every other person murdered for reasons they should not have.
And heads on for making a change.
Will you join the movement?
